About This Studio

Studio 600: The Art and Maker Space, located in Richmond, TX, is managed by Stevie Ballow, an engineer, artist, and DIY enthusiast who also serves as the TAB Studio Director at Shady Oak Primary School. Stevie has been teaching art and making things with kids and adults for almost 20 years. Driven by a belief in the power of art to build confidence and facilitate healing, Stevie is passionate about providing a space where students can explore their unique artistic visions. She is known for asking "What if...?" and her favorite exclamations are “Dude!” and “Rad!”

The studio offers classes, parties, and open-ended crafting kits designed to celebrate the artist within each individual. Studio 600's approach is process-based, rooted in the concept of Teaching for Artistic Behavior (TAB), allowing students to make choices about the subject, media, and approach to their artwork. The studio also provides Open Studio Art Boxes, collections of art supplies without instructions to let the artist decide how to use them.

Studio 600 distinguishes itself from chain experiences through its commitment to community and individual expression. With a focus on open-ended exploration and Mrs. Ballow's unique guidance, the studio provides a welcoming environment for artists of all ages and skill levels to discover their creative potential. Check out the studio's Instagram or Facebook pages for pictures of the TAB Studio in action.
