About This Studio
Firehouse Pottery, located in a historically recognized former fire station in Fort Worth, is the studio of Keith Thomson, also known as 'The Kilted Potter.' Keith brings over 40 years of experience as a potter, ceramic artist, and instructor to his craft. A graduate of Edinburgh College of Art in Scotland and Bezalel Art Academy in Jerusalem, Keith has been running Firehouse Pottery since 2004, celebrating 20 years in September 2023. His passion for clay began in art school, drawn to its unlimited potential for design and workability. He emphasizes the harmony of earth, water, air, and fire in creating ceramic forms.
Firehouse Pottery offers pottery wheel lessons for individuals, couples, and small groups. Keith's one-on-one instruction is designed to help beginners succeed in creating a functional form on their first try. He also offers lessons for kids, with adult supervision required for younger children. The studio provides both single lessons and lesson packages, including a glaze lesson approximately two weeks after the initial session when the pottery has been dried and kiln-fired.
Taking a class at Firehouse Pottery provides an intimate and unique experience. The studio's location in a historic fire station adds to its charm. With Keith's personalized instruction and the studio's focus on handcrafted artistry, students can explore the meditative and therapeutic aspects of the pottery wheel. Drop in for a wheel demonstration or chat about your pottery experience. Lessons are available on Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays.
