About This Studio
The Greater Denton Arts Council (GDAC) has been a cornerstone of the Denton arts community for over 50 years. Located in the historic Patterson-Appleton Arts Center, a renovated steam power plant, the GDAC is dedicated to fostering creativity, advocacy, and collaboration within the community. They provide foundational support for local artists and organizations, partnering with area universities and the Denton Independent School District to enrich the cultural landscape of Denton. The GDAC also manages the Campus Theatre, a Texas historical landmark and home to Theatre Denton.
GDAC offers after-school art classes for students from kindergarten to 6th grade, led by local artist Cassie Arnold. These classes provide hands-on experience with various mediums, including painting, drawing, and sculpture. Students also tour current art exhibitions at the GDAC, developing their artistic voice and creating original works inspired by real-life themes. Two sessions are available, catering to different age groups, with a limited class size of 15 students per session.
Visiting the Greater Denton Arts Council provides an enriching experience, offering a connection to the local art scene. By participating in classes, attending exhibitions, or supporting their initiatives, individuals contribute to the vibrancy of Denton's cultural community. The GDAC's dedication to arts education and advocacy ensures that the arts remain accessible and impactful for all segments of the community. Check out their calendar for upcoming events and exhibitions!
